Imagine waking up from a dream about a helpless soldier stuck at the foot of a volcano. Normally, you would probably forget about it. But, what if the soldier in your dream was missing in real life, and you knew exactly where to find him.

This is exactly what allegedly happened in Hawaii in 1936.

Leslie W. Bryan was a Territorial Forester who was familiar with the local area around the huge Mauna Loa volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii. Bryan had an intense dream. In his dream, he saw a fatigued, dirty and desperate soldier stuck alone somewhere on the slopes of the volcano.

What made this bizarre is that Bryan recognised the location. As a forester, he was familiar with the local area and felt confident he could pinpoint the exact location.

There was also one more piece of information that made this dream hard to ignore.

A soldier named Private Edward Deal had gone missing from an Army Rest Camp. It had been roughly one week since he had gone missing and an alarm had been raised. Bryan knew about the soldier going missing, but no one had been able to find him.

Upon waking, Bryan linked the two together. He decided to look into his dream.

He headed off to the location he had remembered from his dream. This was extremely strange, as he was basing his trip on a dream.

When Bryan arrived, he discovered something incredible. Private Edward Deal was there!

He was exactly how Bryan had described in his dream. A dirty, scruffy and in a terrible state, having been stuck alone for days.

Bryan had found the missing soldier using just his dream and knowledge of the local area. His incredible discovery had saved the life of the missing soldier.

This incredible story was reported in TIME magazine on June 8th 1936, in an article titled ‘Science: Dreams Come True?’. This is interesting as it was published in a magazine that talks about the possibility of dreams being able to predict real-life events.

What is also interesting to note is that Bryan was a forester, meaning he had an understanding of the local area. Bryan had used his dream to find the location, and his knowledge of the area helped him turn his bizarre dream into a search.

One thing to consider is that Bryan’s brain may have subconsciously recalled geographical facts he encountered at work. Perhaps the information about Deal going missing had influenced his dream? Or was it just a crazy coincidence?

There is no scientific proof to back up the claim that Bryan had predicted where the soldier was using supernatural powers. However, the information we do have from the published story does not give us enough information to piece everything together.

Despite this, it is an incredible story. It ties together three seemingly unrelated factors. A missing soldier, a forester’s knowledge of volcanic terrain, and a dream that seemed to point directly to someone in danger.

Sometimes the most bizarre stories from history do not involve mysterious creatures or unexplained disappearances. Sometimes it’s about normal people experiencing something they can’t explain.

In 1936, Leslie W. Bryan allegedly chased after his dream and found a man in dire need of assistance in the volcanic wilderness of Hawaii.
